BOSTON CRUSADERS TO PERFORM IN 57TH PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURAL PARADE

In the midst of a brand new "12 Days of Crusaders" gift giveaway to drum corps fans around the world, the Boston Crusaders are pleased to announce that the corps will be featured in the 57th Presidential Inaugural Parade, to be held on the afternoon of Monday, January 21st, 2013. Assistant Director Justin Heimbecker received the invitation from parade officials on Tuesday afternoon. "We are honored and excited to be a part of this historic event. This is a very unique opportunity for the corps, as we continue looking for new ways to offer a memorable experience to our corps members. Performing in an Inaugural Parade is certainly memorable!" Heimbecker added, "While the opportunity is great, so will be the challenge. As a summer performing group, this is an awkward time of year to develop a roster, get the uniforms out of storage, adjust winter rehearsals, and take care of all that goes with the performance. That said, it's well worth the extra effort from the entire organization to represent the state of Massachusetts."

Executive Director Tom Spataro pointed out that the corps is not new to this kind of situation. "The Crusaders performed in the Inaugural Parade for Lyndon B. Johnson. As a matter of fact, John F. Kennedy was the corps' very first honorary member, after securing uniforms for the group decades ago. We're honored to receive this invitation, to perform for President Obama."

ADJUSTMENTS & UPDATES

As a starting point, the corps has shifted the January rehearsal weekend. Camp was originally to be held in Bradenton, Florida during the weekend of January 25-27. As staff, applicants, and members were notified of the corps' possible participation in the parade back in November, everyone is prepared to move rehearsal to a site to be determined in the VA/MD area during the holiday weekend of January 18-21.

All corps personnel are asked to hold off on flights for one more day;  everyone will receive an email with detailed instructions for airports/flights within 36 hours, as well as application details and guidelines.

In the meantime, the corps brass and percussion sections gather this weekend for Round 2 of "holiday auditions" at Lakewood Ranch High School in Bradenton, Florida. Additional parade details will be provided at the camp, while colorguard staff & members should look for information regarding a web discussion in the coming days.
