Hall of Fame Announcement 2012 |
The Boston Crusaders are very excited to announce the 2012 class of the Crusaders Hall of Fame.
This year's inductees are:
Tom Lizotte - long-time brass instructor and caption head
Bob Bedard - long time instructor and supporter
Jim and John Lyons - key contributors in keeping the corps alive after the 1982 Europe trip
And announcing the recipient of the 2012 Joe Ricci Volunteer of the Year:
Julie Dawson
Julie joined the Crusaders family late in 2008 when her son James joined the trumpet line. Since then, the Dawson family has been a keystone of our winter camp season providing housing and meals for anyone who needs it and, more recently, cooking for all the corps at camp!
Julie is a throwback to those earlier years when corps moms & dads would feed, house, and virtually adopt any member of the corps that needed it. Camp after camp, year after year, Julie's house has affectionately been deemed "Hotel Dawson." She and her family play host to many of our international members, as well as those who fly across the country to come to our camps, including our drum major Thompson Vou. Each month, throughout our winter program, we rely on Julie for her essential and timeless support.
As the years pass by, people who are willing to give up so much of their time and energy for our activity become much harder to find. This past winter, when Scott Stemper -- a corps dad who has done an amazing job feeding the corps at winter camps since 2007 -- needed to shift his focus more on work after 5+ years of camps with us we were worried. Julie came to our rescue. Not only did she feed and house as many members as could fit in "Hotel Dawson," she decided to take over the camp food program as well!
Like Joe himself, Julie never marched with the corps, which makes her devotion to our Crusader family all the more special.
Congratulations to Julie and the Crusaders Hall of Fame Class of 2012!
