Calling All Volunteers!
The members of the 2012 Boston Crusaders are eagerly anticipating their upcoming summer tour, which will take them to a new Spring Training site in northern California followed by a coast-to-coast tour covering nearly 15,000 miles in less than 60 days!

According to Program Coordinator and Drill Designer Brian Murphy, "In the 9 seasons I have been involved with the corps, this is certainly shaping up to the most exciting one yet. The 2012 program, The Titans, embodies all the things that make Boston Crusaders who they are, but will push our boundaries and will hopefully set a new standard of performance and excellence for the corps. This years music takes a more classical approach with Respighi's Pines of Rome and Malher's Symphony #1, but don't let those classical titles scare you away. This music was made for drum corps. It has power and passion and who better to bring it to the field than Boston Crusaders. With our west coast tour and our participation in the Tour of Champions events, we are spending our winter months agressively preparing the show and the members to hit the ground running for our season debut in Clovis, CA. By all accounts, this should be a very exciting season for us."

If there is one thing we have learned over the years, a great volunteer force keeps a drum corps happy, successful, and well-fed! As we journey through all corners of our beautiful country this summer, we’re looking for parents, aunts, uncles, band directors, and, well…anyone and everyone who is willing to join our food truck to wash dishes, mix Gatorade, chop carrots, haul garbage, slice potatoes, wash our red and black uniforms, or even get behind the wheel of one of our corps vehicles as a driver.

We’ll provide the leadership and the orientation, and we’ll answer any questions you may have; all you need to provide is a great attitude and a desire to work long, hard hours to contribute to the 2012 Boston Crusaders in a way you never thought possible! When you see the corps take the field at night, you’ll have an emotional connection with the young people under those shakos that will make you so, so proud to call yourself a Boston Crusaders Volunteer.

So, follow the map, and see where the Crusaders are heading this summer. Find the week or two (or three or four!) that work for you – and we’ll be happy to set you up for a fantastic experience!

May 25 – June 22 (Spring Training in California)

While we don’t need drivers for this leg of tour, we are in need of foodservice volunteers who want to “get their feet wet” when it comes to a drum corps summer. No travel, more sleep, and a consistent daily routine – this stretch of the summer is perfect for the newbie, or for someone who prefers to be stationary.

June 22 – June 30 (CA, OR, WA)

If you’re a veteran volunteer looking for new scenery on tour, this is the week for you. After our opening contests in California, we’re headed to the beautiful Pacific Northwest for rehearsals and performances in Oregon and Washington before we begin the long trek back east.

July 1 – July 7 (WA, ID, UT, WY, CO)

As we make our way to the Mountain Time Zone, join us for performances in Boise, Ogden, and Casper before completing another week of tour with a performance at the wonderful Invesco Field in Denver, CO.

July 8-14 (NE, IA, WI, MN)

The Crusaders will cover quite a few miles (and yet another time zone) as we perform in Omaha, Waukee, Dubuque, La Crosse, and eventually land in Minneapolis, MN for the first DCI Regional of the entire summer. Be there to see your team square up against corps from all across the country.

July 15 – July 21 (IL, KS, TX)

After the corps performs in the Minneapolis regional, it’s time for the first Tournament of Champions contest, hosted by the Phantom Regiment in Rockford, IL. From there, it’s a healthy mix of rehearsal and shows as we head south to visit our friends in Texas for another “TOC” contest in Houston before the DCI regional at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.

July 22 – July 28 (TX, TN, GA)

The Crusaders will depart the Lone Star State after performances in Odessa and Dallas, and take advantage of some quality rehearsal time before the third TOC event in Murfreesboro, TN. This takes us back to the DCI Atlanta regional at the Georgia Dome, and finally… Eastern Time!

July 29 – August 4 (SC, NC, VA, MA, PA)

It’s finally August, and that means the Crusaders are coming home! After a week full of performances along the east coast, the corps returns to the East Coast Classic in Lawrence, MA to show our local friends and alumni all of our progress from a long, challenging, exciting summer! Join us for this stretch, or jump on tour and follow us through the classic DCI East regional in Allentown, PA.

August 5 – August 11 (NJ, OH, IN)

As we depart Allentown, it is always a bittersweet sign that our cross-country journey is nearing an end once again. Be there for the TOC Finale at New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. Be there for the hugs, the tears, and a week of emotional and memorable performances to cap off the summer of a lifetime for 150 amazing young men and women! You may just find yourself wrapped up in this finals week, along with the members and staff!
