2012 Drum Majors Announced |
The Boston Crusaders are pleased to announce the drum majors for the 2012 season.
R eturning for his fourth year on the podium and aging out this summer is Thompson Vou. This is his fifth year with the Crusaders; he started as a conductor in 2008. Thompson is completing a business degree at the University of Washington and holds the distinction of being the longest serving Crusaders Drum Major in the modern DCI era.
"Thompson will be sorely missed next year," said Crusaders Executive Director Tom Spataro. "By introducing the new Assistant DMs this year, we'll be able to establish some continuity of leadership and institutional knowledge for the position from 2012 to 2013--and give them a chance to learn from Thompson during the year."
Joining Thompson is his final year are two Assistant Drum Majors, Will Bishop and Stephen Grindel.
Will Bishop, originally from Ohio, currently hails from San Marcos, Texas and is entering his third season of drum corps. Will came to the Crusaders in 2011 and served as a conductor for last year's season. He is currently a Music Education student at Texas State University, as well as being an active athlete and community volunteer. "I'm very thankful to have been given the opportunity to help lead a drum corps that is very near and dear to my heart into the fast changing and challenging world that is Drum Corps International," said Bishop.
Stephen Grindel grew up in Richland, Washington and is currently enrolled at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois studying Jazz Studies (trumpet) & Music Education. This is Stephen's third year with the Crusaders and he was the proud recipient of the Jim Ott Scholarship in 2011. Commenting on his new role with the corps, Stephen said, "I am honored to have been selected for this position and look forward to the perspective I will gain from serving the corps in this new capacity."
