Round 1 Auditions Complete |
As November concludes, so does Round One of the 2012 audition process. All candidates
invited Round Two in December will be notified by the end of this week.
Crusaders staff have completed preliminary evaluations of the 300+ candidates from the Massachusetts, Texas, Florida and video auditions and expect to make 95% of the final brass and percussion selections at the December Camp.
"We're expecting around 200 at the December Camp," said Executive Director Tom Spataro. "December is when everyone [brass and percussion] comes together for the first time from the remote auditions, so you start to get a real feel for what the corps will be like come summer. We've got a great base of veteran members, including a solid group of fourth and fifth year members that will provide excellent leadership throughout the season. When half the corps is composed of veteran members, it's great for the new folks, because when they are standing in the arc, chances are if they look to their left or their right, their will be someone who knows the ropes."
Camp was typically productive; the hornline played through the first two minutes of the 2012 production as well as a few chorales, as the guard and percussion worked on technique and fundamentals. The beautiful Florida weather allowed for the first vis block of the year to be outside and the corps' winter hosts at Lakewood Ranch were as accomodating as ever.
2012 continues in just two and a half weeks on December 16 at Lakewood Ranch.
