Crusaders member on a mission |
First year euphonium player Zack Meyers from Houston, TX spent a week in March on a mission trip to Jamaica.Â
Here's what Zack had to say about his trip:
This was our 17th year for the Senior class of St. Peters United Methodist Church to work in Jamaica at the All Age School in Hampstead, Saint Maria. During the day we spent time with the kids doing crafts, recess, and leading devotional. After school was out, we made our way to a nearby field and led a field day for all the children from the community that showed up. Playing tag, soccer, kick ball, any and every little game you can and can’t think of and just making them smile and have fun.
We also spent time in the nearby community, going on prayer walks and picking up trash. We laid down tile in the staff bathroom and the kitchen where they prepare fresh cooked lunches every day. We also had a group replace a part of a woman’s zinc roof so that her house and all that lived inside would stay dry. Our last group tore out a floor, or lack thereof, and put in a new one so that the home was livable once again.
Our second place to reach out was at the main church in Port Maria. We were warmly welcomed at a three hour church service, mainly spent singing and dancing in praise, inhibitions non-existent.
We made donations of our extra funds, computer pieces, as well as medical and school supplies to the school and church. Nowhere have I gone and witnessed such generosity, love and kindness than in the people of Jamaica.
