It is with deep regret that the Boston Crusaders have accepted
the resignation of Percussion Caption Head and Arranger Dr. Omar Carmenates. Omar began his time with the Boston Crusaders as a member of the corps from 2001-2002 and for seven seasons has served in various capacities including tenor technician, battery coordinator, percussion caption head, and percussion arranger. Commenting on his departure, Carmenates said, “For ten seasons the Boston Crusaders have been an integral part of my life. Through an engagement, a wedding, three college degrees, two children, and a full-time job at a prestigious university, the corps has been alongside me supporting my every move. It is with a heavy heart that I have chosen to step back from the organization. The time has come for me to devote myself to my loving wife and children and to focus on my own professional development and teaching duties at Furman University. While my day-to-day involvement with the corps has come to an end, I will always be a part of the Crusader family and look forward to being a fan for many years to come!
To all of the parents, alumni, staff, and, most importantly, students with whom I have had the privilege of friendship: I will miss you all so incredibly much. You are all truly Giants!”
“Omar and I came up in this organization together,” said Crusaders Executive Director Tom Spataro. “It was an honor to march with him in 2001, and it has been an honor to work side by side with Omar since 2005. His educational philosophy, approach, and commitment to the Boston Crusaders has been invaluable to the development of this corps. We will all miss his presence and his valuable contributions to the corps we love.”
The Crusaders wish Omar and his family the very best, and hope to see them at DCI Championships next year…in the stands with fellow Crusader fans. (Omar--the tickets are on us!)
