The Crusaders recently completed their February camp at Lakewood Ranch High School.
Overall attendance was down a bit this month as many members had excused absences due to school-related performances. It is corps policy that a required school music performance takes precedence over camp. "Although we would love to have every member here for every camp, we know that's not a reality," Executive Director Tom Spataro states. "We want to work with high school and college band directors in educating our students, not against them...so we maintain that flexibility when we can."
On Saturday, there was a county-wide JROTC Drill Meet at Lakewood Ranch, so the stadium was off limits for the corps. The Crusaders sent a small brass ensemble over to the event to play the National Anthem. The performance was well-received by the crowd, and each member of the corps received a commendation from the U.S. Army for their participation in the event.
The weather Saturday was fantastic, and the corps was able to do some extended movement and marching exercises outside on the grass. Saturday evening saw the hornline and the pit ensembling some lyrical music while the battery worked on one of their cadences for the summer.

As always, Sunday was gone in a flash, with a bit more time for visual in the morning and a review block before ensemble. Ensemble was outdoors in 74 degree sunshine with a considerable crowd present. At the conclusion of ensemble, the corps played through about six and a half minutes of music in their "run-through." An hour and a half later, campus was clean and empty as if 130 people had never been there...
